Use the words your customers use

Improve the optimization of your site by researching a wide range of relevant key phrases that will enable your site to rank well and that potential users may also choose to find such information.

These words and phrases should be apparent in the body copy of your site pages. Optimization should not just be limited to the home page and be integrated throughout the site wherever possible.

Make sure your target keywords appear in the crucial locations on your web pages. The page's ‘title tag’ is most important. Failure to put target keywords in the title tag is the main reason why perfectly relevant web pages may be poorly ranked.

Search engines also like pages where keywords appear ‘high’ on the page. To accommodate them, use your target keywords for your page headline, if possible. Have them also appear in the first paragraphs of your web page.

Keep in mind that tables can ‘push’ your text further down the page, making keywords less relevant because they appear lower on the page.

The Title and Meta Description Tags are very important aspects of your search engine optimization campaign.

After selecting your most relevant keyword phrases and writing a keyword rich copy for your web page, you can now work these important search terms into your Title and Meta Description Tags.

Meta Description Tag

Include your most relevant and important keyword phrases in your page's Meta Description Tag.

As in the case of Title Tag, focus on the same keyword phrases as you used in your page's Title Tag and body text. Fewer and highly targeted search phrases can boost your web page's relevance in the search engines results 

Body text

Ensure your page content is focused with keyword rich text. Headings should include your best keywords to aid both search engines and visitors.
